The ex-lawyer for the former president has stepped down as the US Attorney for New Jersey. This follows a court battle that invalidated her legal standing to serve.

Attorney General's Statement

US Attorney General, the Attorney General, confirmed Habba's resignation on the start of the week. In a statement that the appeals court finding made it "untenable" for Habba to perform her duties.

"But do not mistake compliance for surrender," Habba stated. "This battle will now stretch across the country."

Judicial Challenge

The departure was triggered by a federal appellate panel determined that she had been acting without proper authority as the federal prosecutor. This ruling is likely to affect numerous criminal cases in the Garden State.

The appellate judges said that a acting appointment that did not receive Senate approval violated the federal law governing appointments.

Ongoing Legal Battle

Bondi said that Habba will remain at the justice department as a high-level advisor. She will challenge the decision of the ruling, in the hope of achieving a overturned decision.

On a social media platform, Bondi wrote that the judiciary "must not second-guess the President's choice of prosecutors entrusted with executing the executive branch's core responsibility of enforcing the law."

Accomplishments Cited

Bondi praised Habba's record and said that under her leadership, the state capital of Newark saw a one-fifth decrease in criminal activity. Additionally that the southern city of Camden recorded its first summer in half a century without a homicide.

Connection to Donald Trump

The 41-year-old attorney, was initially recruited to Trump's personal legal team in recent years. Subsequently, she acted for her client in his business records case in the previous year, which resulted in his conviction on 34 counts of financial record manipulation.

Before her appointment to the top New Jersey post, the former president had revealed he was selecting her as his senior adviser during his second administration, calling her as "unwavering in her loyalty" and a "tireless advocate for justice".
