Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Loss

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for questions to be raised about his future after a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their 9th defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got a lot of support from management,” Slot commented.

“It would be nice to change things and earn three points of course but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”

He added, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we turned it around.”

Conversations with The Board

When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach revealed:

“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “Through standard discussions I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so we'll see.”

Recurring Problems and Player Response

The manager highlighted recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”

He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side going through a period of this nature with results so bad.”

Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we'll continue to compete.”

“We will attempt to get this team back to where it needs to be, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”

“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
