First-choice Eleven

Dean Henderson Not a save to perform before the break but then tested by Arbër Hoxha’s bent shot. One well-timed sliding challenge against Qazim Laci showed sharp game intelligence. 6/10

The debutant Challenged against Albania’s main danger in their forward. Operated more centrally early on then shifted out wide after a teammate was introduced. 7/10

The defender Advanced into midfield on the ball, a familiar role previously. At times lacked urgency on the ball and the tactic discontinued at half-time. 6/10

Dan Burn A nuisance on corners and free-kicks, as always, perhaps is an alternative to his teammate in the backline as opposed to paired with him. A loose distribution later in the match came close to the first goal for the visitors. 6/10

The young full-back A further assured display by the 20-year-old following his initial appearance versus Serbia. Saka failed to make full advantage of an exquisite touch behind their defense. The role is his to lose already. Seven

The newcomer His first start in an England shirt. Somewhat loose in possession though his dangerous corners posed a danger. An effective pace-controller available to the coach to have versus defensive opponents. Cautioned for a rash challenge. 6

The midfielder Set-pieces from corners and set-plays were dangerous. Enjoyed freedom to roam down the left flank only to be in an offside position upon receiving in front of goal. Given a merited substitution after an hour. 6

The star midfielder Operated in a forward spot out wide and also put in dirty work. Displayed moments of class and dragged a shot wide. Withdrawn towards the end for Rogers, a fellow player, after receiving a caution. 7

The winger Had England’s clearest opportunity in the opening period, his strike well saved by the opposing goalkeeper. As Quansah holding position, it fell to him to stretch the play out wide yet his deliveries into the box were hit and miss. Substituted late in the match. 6/10

The captain The match-winner with his 77th and 78th goals at international level. His first a trademark opportunist's goal and his next an excellent header after peeling away away from the opposition. Aged 32, he’s only getting better and England are strong contenders in future competitions with him up top. Eight

Eberechi Eze Had difficulty to make an impact from the left. Had a decent opportunity when set up from a teammate however Strakosha denied him. His replacement made much more of an impact after coming on. 5/10
