Supporters Demand Arrest of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of the actress are demanding that a person who jumped a barrier and grabbed the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A viral video reveals the individual from Australia shoving aside camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the cast walked down a event pathway flanked by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being taken in", though official papers revealed that he was scheduled to be present on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was charged.
History of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram account includes recordings of him disturbing other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last year.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is evidently a punishable act," stated an Instagram commenter, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Followers Voice Worry Over the Star's Safety
Many followers criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said one more comment on Instagram.
A number of attendees also faulted guards at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while others called for digital services to ban Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Event Details
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande looked shocked when she was touched by the man. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Hundreds of supporters had assembled in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had waited for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The movie, to be released on the 21st of November, is the sequel of a two-film interpretation of the well-known Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely friendship between two contrasting characters.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a light pink glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of last year in the UK, and earned 10 Oscar nominations, earning a pair for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
