The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Song
The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure by the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new opening credits. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for characters such as Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.
All in all, the opening looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the song choice.
This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release put out by the production company's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.
But for me, The series' opening fails to capture the hype and excitement that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it only got better when cast member the performer wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.
Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have some changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as among these.
The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of the second series, the original episodes are available on Spotify and the video site.
